"The about-turn in our approach to the public is huge."

"Our approach may with confidence be called interactive and innovative—for example, the new presentation techniques we’ve developed and the use of mobile routes. It is on a scale new to our country and confirms us as a leader in the archive sector."
Douwe Huizing, director Drenthe Archive
"The about-turn in our approach to the public is huge—from our selective offering of parts of our collection, visitors can now do it themselves. We guide them in reconstructing their own life histories, gathering it, creating an on-site experience and sharing it with others. This is a fundamental change in approach."

Drenthe Archive 3.0
Archive for the 21st Century - Opening 2012
From collection to connection
The Drenthe Archive in Assen plans to radically change traditional perceptions of archives with a new vision of what an archive can be. Visitors to the archive will be able to search for and access a digital collection that includes maps, photographs, images and documents more easily than ever before in state-of-the-art facilities.
But soon, you won’t even have to be in the building itself to access archive material. You will be able to go to a location in Drente, access the archive via your mobile phone and call up old photographs and maps of that location. The Drenthe Archive itself is designing its own locative media tours that will offer visitors a unique glimpse into the history that surrounds them.
Act2 is working with Zecc Architects and 7scenes on this project.
